Hi,

I’m using subversion mostly for data backup and synchronizing files between workstations / servers. I was wondering, is it possible to stop subversion from storing every revision, but only keep the latest one.

For example, if I delete a file from a repository and commit, I don’t want server to store the file thats deleted, and make a new revision where this file is just hidden.
Same goes for overwriting — lets say I have a file with two lines of code in it, and I edit it, and commit it to the server, there is no need to store the old file.

Basically I want to use it as any normal data system, and only use the version tracking to keep the latest version only. Also because space is limited, it’ll probably cost a very large amount of disk space to keep every version over everything.

Is this possible? If so, how? If not, any other program that able to do this?
btw, at the moment I use the TortoiseSVN client.

Thanks in advantage for the help / advice :)

Gr.

Subversion, Git or any other version control system are designed specifically to track changesets through time and will not function as you suggest. It sounds like you may be looking for more of a web-based storage service, probably backed by WebDAV.
