repo: should be the repository abbeviation, so if you have a repository with an abbreviation of abc1, it should read "source:abc1:filename"

ERROR:gitosis.serve.main:Repository read access denied
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

I tried to delete whole project, set up a new repository and attach it to an existing project. I am account admin, but I set the Source permission to commit and nothing changed.

The repository was "commitable" a few hours after creating the account but it stopped working. I use repositories owned by another people, those work well.

Any suggestions?
Thx, Jiri

Hmmm, I tried many variations on that theme.

My repo is called 'X-Factor' and comes up as X-Factor (xfactor) when I click on Repositories. Not sure where the 'abbreviation is...

Any thoughts ?

Thanks, Ray

Git is flakey at best (on unfuddle) replied by David C. @ Thu, 27 Aug 2009 01:31:46 UTC

J,

There are many reasons one might encounter the "Repository read access denied" error. In your case it is likely that Git is simply using the wrong key when attempting to authenticate. There are technical reasons why it is not possible to have the same key for two users or in two separate accounts. However, there is a simple way to make sure Git uses the correct key when authenticating.

To do this you can simply add the following lines to your ~/.ssh/config file:

Host yoursubdomain.unfuddle.com
 User git
 IdentityFile /path/to/correct/private/key_rsa

You will need to use the actual subdomain of your account as well as specify the correct path to your private key. You can check to see if this is working by running (minus the "\")

ssh -vv git\@yoursubdomain.unfuddle.com

While this will output quite a bit of information, you should be able to see which key(s) are being sent and used for authentication.

Also, you should note that it can take up to a minute for a newly added public key to become active on the server. During this time you may not be able to connect to your repository.

Finally, one other reason this error can occur is if the repository is not associated with a project or if you simply do not have permission to read the repository as defined by the project(s) with which it is associated.

Hendy,

Good catch. We have just updated the Unfuddle markup to require a word-boundary character before identifiers such as "source:", "ticket:", etc. Your example should now render correctly. However, note that we do not check for a mandatory path. It will just try to use anything that appears after "source:" (up until whitespace).

Thanks!

If we can get some form of templating ( http://unfuddle.com/community/forums/1/topics/168 ) creating new projects will get a whole lot easier, especially now that we have these custom fields.

I started getting 401s on Tuesday. From my investigation, it looks like a WWW-Authenticate header is no longer being returned by Unfuddle when it returns the 401 response. I assume that it used to return this header, as it should (it's part of the Basic authentication protocol) and for some reason recently stopped returning it.

If this is your problem as well, you can get around it by providing the raw Basic authentication header yourself, rather than relying on your http library to negotiate the authentication.

Ah, this is a bug that is being caused by some of the new fragment caching we have implemented. Certain fragments are not being expired along with the Suversion commit actions.

We will soon be pushing out a new version of the caching code that will remedy this issue.

Thanks for pointing that out!
